Baked Brie with Apples and Honey Walnuts
60 Minutes | Serves 6
Honey Apple Walnuts
1 Honeycrisp Apple Peeled, Cored and Diced
½ cup Honey
½ cup Walnuts Lightly Chopped
1 Tbsp Dark Brown Sugar Packed
¼ tsp Freshly Ground Nutmeg
¼ tsp Ground Cinnamon
Breading and Brie
2, 8 oz or 1, 16 oz Wheel of Brie Cheese
1 tsp All-Purpose Flour
1 Large Egg Beaten
½ cup Panko Bread Crumbs
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
To prepare the honey apple walnuts, place all ingredients in a medium-sized saucepan, and put on high heat. Stir all ingredients together, and bring the contents to a boil. Reduce to low heat and lightly simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
As the liquid reduces, stir more often and lower the heat to maintain a light simmer. When finished, place in a shallow bowl and cool until thickened.
Score the top, bottom and sides of the Brie wheel with a fork. Dredge the wheel in the flour. Move the wheel to the whisked egg and coat the top, bottom and sides.
Transfer the wheel to the bread crumbs. Using your hands, gently press the bread crumbs into the top, bottom and sides until the wheel is completely coated.
Place coated wheel on a sauté pan or oven-safe baking dish, and bake for 18-20 minutes or until the bread crumbs are golden brown. The cooked wheel of Brie should slide easily off the sauté pan. If you use a baking dish, serve in the dish or transfer the wheel to a serving plate using a spatula.
Top with the cooled honey apple walnuts.
