Holiday Toffee
2 Hours | Serves 6
1 cup Granulated Sugar
1 cup Salted Butter
1 cup Semisweet Chocolate Chips
¼ cup Water
½ tsp Kosher Salt
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Sprinkles or Nuts Optional
Line a 9x9 baking dish with parchment paper and set aside.
Combine the sugar, butter, water and salt in a medium-sized, heavy bottomed saucepan. Place over medium heat. Attach a candy thermometer to the pan. Using a wooden spoon, stir all ingredients together. Slowly heat the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently.
Once the mixture is boiling, stir an additional 2-3 times until it reaches 290 degrees. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Immediately pour the toffee into the baking dish. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes.
Cover the top with chocolate chips. Place aluminum foil on top of the baking dish and let the chips melt for 5 minutes. Spread the melted chocolate into an even layer. Top with sprinkles or nuts. Refrigerate for 2 hours.
Remove the toffee from the baking dish, and break into pieces.
